November 25 (Financial Eye) – Hyd’Occ, jointly owned by a unit of French renewable power producer Qair and compatriot Arec Occitanie, on Thursday unveiled plans to build and operate a green hydrogen production facility at the Port-La-Nouvelle on the Mediterranean.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with port operator SEMOP Port-La-Nouvelle, paving the way for installation works to begin in the second half of 2024.

Under the plan, the future production unit will be able to progressively reach 45 MW of electrical power generation capacity. The renewable hydrogen will be used in the HYVOO/CORRIDOR H2 ecosystem, a project aimed to create a chain of hydrogen distribution stations from the Mediterranean to the North Sea and on secondary motorway routes in the Occitanie region of southern France.

Apart from application in charging stations, the future output of the green hydrogen facility will also be used for maritime and port purposes.

Hyd’Occ was set up in the summer of 2020 to work on zero-emission mobility solutions and build an electrolysis plant within Port-La Nouvelle to produce 6,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

Port-La Nouvelle in Aude department, Occitaine, is France’s third largest commercial port on the Mediterranean.
